The College of Pharmacy at Yeungnam University (YU, President CHOI Oe-chool) celebrated its 70th anniversary, bringing together alumni and current students to reaffirm the college’s commitment to future growth and development. The commemorative events consisted of two main programs—“Pharmacists of YU: Meeting the Future” and “Cultural Festival with YU Pharmacists”—held at the YU College of Pharmacy complex on October 31 and November 2.
The first program, “Pharmacists of YU: Meeting the Future,” was a career mentoring event that invited alumni working across various fields to return to their alma mater and share insights and experiences with current students.Alumni active in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and public health sectors engaged in relay mentoring sessions under themes such as “Innovators of the Laboratory,” “Translators of Ideas into Reality,” “Guardians of Public Health,” and “Pioneers Across Boundaries.” Through in-depth discussions with faculty and senior alumni, students gained valuable first-hand advice and explored practical career pathways.
Two days later, the 70th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony and Joint Cultural Performance brought together alumni and students to reflect on the history of the College of Pharmacy and renew its vision for the future. The ceremony was attended by YU President CHOI Oe-chool, YU College of Pharmacy Alumni Association President CHO Yong-il, Distinguished Chair Professor JEON Hye-sook, Korean Association of Pharmacy Education Chair NA Young-hwa, along with approximately 250 alumni, faculty, and students.

During the ceremony, a total of KRW 120 million was donated to support the university’s development initiatives. Alumna GO Kyung-sook (Class of ’63), daughter of the late inaugural department head GO Byung-sun, contributed KRW 100 million. Additionally, alumna JEONG Da-won (Class of ’83; formerly at the Korean Intellectual Property Office and MFDS) and the YU College of Pharmacy Busan Alumni Association each donated KRW 10 million, demonstrating continued dedication to the advancement of their alma mater.
The ceremony also featured congratulatory video messages, a line dance performance, and a band concert jointly staged by alumni and students. The event concluded with a “Time Capsule Sealing Ceremony,” symbolizing the commitment to carry forward the college’s 70-year legacy into the next era.
President CHOI Oe-chool stated, “The 70-year journey of the College of Pharmacy is deeply intertwined with the history of Yeungnam University itself. Since its establishment in 1967, the College has dedicated itself to nurturing professionals who contribute to public health, playing a significant role in extending the average life expectancy of the Korean people. This legacy is the result of the passion and devotion of all members of the College.” He added, “YU will continue to lead the field of pharmaceutical education and foster professionals who embody the values of life and health. The generous support from our alumni will serve as a strong foundation for strengthening the university’s future competitiveness and cultivating talent who contribute to humanity.”
