Senior and junior alumni unite to support newcomers entering society
A mentoring venue with more than 270 participants, including senior mentors and newly employed graduates

Distinguished alumni of Yeungnam University (YU, President CHOI Oe-chool) who are active in various sectors nationwide gathered at Seoul Dragon City Hotel at 7 p.m. on November 20. They came together to celebrate and support junior alumni who have recently entered the workforce and begun their careers in the metropolitan area.
Hosted by the Yeungnam University Alumni Association in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (Chairman PARK Jeong-gwan), the Cheonma Career Alumni Welcome Event celebrated its 12th anniversary this year with great success. First launched in 2012, this annual event has become a unique YU alumni tradition in which senior alumni personally encourage and mentor juniors who are taking their first steps into professional life.
More than 270 YU alumni filled the venue, including over 100 newly employed alumni who began work in Seoul and the metropolitan area this year.
The event was attended by PARK Jeong-gwan, Chairman of the YU Alumni Association in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (Pharmacy ’75, Chairman of With Pharm Co., Ltd.); YOON Dong-han, Chairman of the YU General Alumni Association (Business Administration ’66); YOON Sang-hyeon, Former Chairman of the YU Alumni Association in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (Business Administration ’69); LEE Jae-rim, CEO of Borim Construction Co., Ltd. (Architecture ’75); Rep. JOO Ho-young (Law ’78); Rep. KIM Seung-soo (Public Administration ’83); Rep. JO Ji-yeon (Political Science & Diplomacy ’06); SHIN Tae-yong, former head coach of the Indonesian national football team (Physical Education ’88), and many other prominent alumni from politics, government, business, law, and culture who joined despite busy schedules to show support for the new professionals.
In his welcome remarks, PARK Jeong-gwan, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Alumni Association, said, “The Cheonma Career Alumni Welcome Event is a place where senior and junior alumni come together to share experience and encourage those taking their first steps into society. I hope that through today’s gathering, our junior alumni will take pride as members of YU and grow into leaders who will guide the Republic of Korea.”
Representing the newly-employed alumni, HYUN Jae-jin (Department of Construction System Engineering ’16) expressed gratitude, saying, “Meeting so many senior alumni at such an important moment as I begin my career has truly given me strength. I am proud to be a YU alumnus, and seeing the achievements of my seniors inspires me to dream bigger about the future.”
From the university leadership, Vice President for External Affairs LEE Kyung-soo, Director for External Relations YOON Jeong-hyeon, and other representatives from the External Affairs Office attended the event.President CHOI Oe-chool delivered a congratulatory address via the Vice President, saying, “My sincere congratulations to all of you who have successfully secured employment during such challenging times. I hope you will continue to grow with the encouragement of your alma mater and senior alumni, becoming the talent that leads national development. YU will continue to do our utmost to cultivate professionals who enhance the dignity of Korea and contribute to the advancement of humanity.”
